This tune has been set to some children's verse on page 17 and 18 of The Story of Redemption for Children

Vexilla Regis is a hymn once sung on Good Friday as the Blessed Sacrament was carried from the repository to the altar. It is also a Vespers hymn for Passiontide and the feast of the Holy Cross.

It was written by Venantius Fortunatus (530-609) in honor of the arrival of a relic of the True Cross sent to Queen Radegunda by the Emperor Justin II and his Empress Sophia. More information...
